TED is a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It began in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with the annual TED Conference in Long Beach, California, and the TEDGlobal conference in Oxford UK, TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Program, the new TEDx community program, this year's TEDIndia Conference and the annual TED Prize.

In the spirit of "Ideas Worth Spreading," TEDx is a program that enables schools, businesses, libraries or just groups of friends to enjoy a TED-like experience through events they themselves organize, design and host. The TED Conference is supporting approved organizers by offering the right to use recorded TEDTalks, promotion on the TED site, connection to other organizers and a little piece of the TED brand in the form of the TEDx label. Through a mix of TED's critically acclaimed TEDTalks series and selections of live speakers, performances and tech demos, TEDx licensees are stimulating dialog at the local level. The TED Conference will be selecting the best of live TEDx content and posting it on TED.com, where it will be capable of reaching a global audience.

TEDxTC is an independantly organzied TED event held in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The mission is to bring the talent and set of ideas being developed here in our own backyard to the world. The TED Conference has launched TEDx to enable local groups to put a spotlight on ideas that should be spread.
